Jewish ladies are a vital part of the fabric of the community. They are not only responsible for raising and supporting their families but are also tasked with spreading Yiddishkeit, and it is in this role that they may make the most affect. In addition to their halakhic duties, a large number of Jewish women also actively follow their personal growth and development through education, employment opportunities, and other actions that bring meaning and fulfillment to their lives. They are the backbone of our community, and their dedication to Judaism is unparalleled.

Even though the rabbis would not explicitly state it, they considered that women’s maturity begins in the onset of puberty, or menarche. This was not because consider that females are less spiritual than males, but rather since women have a more important role simply because wives and moms and should always be fully dedicated to those tasks. The rabbis did not really want women to be distracted by the pursuit of Torah or other academic research that would distract them of their responsibilities mainly because wives and mothers.

This is why the rabbis established a different age for the purpose of males and females to mark the start of puberty: in the case of a girl, it had been about her 13th birthday; to get a boy it had been about his 14th year (Mishnah Niddah five: 7). In the case of a girl, the rabbis as well defined maturity by a volume of physical attributes: the appearance of two pubic fur; an increase in her weight; a change in her voice; and nipple expansion (see BT Niddah 45a).

The rabbis did not outline such a definition for a gentleman. Instead, they rely on a number of factors to ascertain adulthood: mental development that may enable a person to comprehend realistic mitzvot and thus obligate all of them; the achievement of pub mitzvah; and the presence of any full nipple (Sefer ha-Bagrut, Introduction, lines 6-18).

Normally, women will be able to learn more conveniently than men because there is a higher level of “binah” than guys. Binah identifies intuition, understanding, and intelligence. The rabbis were convinced that the matriarchs Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah were better than the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in prophecy because of the binah.

This may explain why, even though Maimonides and also other scholars of his time did not enable women to analyze Torah, the Jewish feminist movement seems to have always included women who are enthusiastic and ready to master. This as well explains for what reason, even today, the number of Jewish women who are interested in learning Torah is certainly greater than the percentage of men who happen to be. The truth is the fact that the role of Jewish women of all ages has never been even more critical or perhaps rewarding than it is now. This can be a time of tremendous chance to continue the legacy of our beloved israeli mail order bride matriarchs. Allow us to honor them by moving forward to work for the upkeep of the Jewish people and a world that needs the light that just Jewish ladies can glimmer.
